The Miami Heat are bringing back guard Dru Smith

The Miami Heat are bringing back guard Dru Smith on a three-year deal, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Smith, 27, has struggled with injuries, appearing in just 23 games over the last two seasons. He missed most of 2023-24 with an ACL tear and was sidelined again in 2024-25 by a torn Achilles. Before the setbacks, Smith showed promise, averaging 6.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 50.8% from the field at the start of last season.

Undrafted out of Missouri in 2021, Smith first joined Miami for summer league and split time between the Heat and G League affiliate Sioux Falls Skyforce. He signed briefly with the Brooklyn Nets in January 2023 but returned to Miami the following summer. Despite his injury history, the Heat are betting on his resilience and defensive energy, committing to him long-term.
