Toronto Raptors rookie guard Ja'Kobe Walter will miss his first NBA training camp due to a sprained right shoulder, the team announced on Friday. The injury occurred during informal workouts earlier in the week, and the team plans to provide an update on his condition after next week’s training camp in Montreal.
Walter, a 6-foot-4 guard, was selected by the Raptors with the 19th overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft this past June. He had a standout freshman season at Baylor, where he was the team’s top scorer, averaging 14.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. His impressive play earned him the Big 12 Freshman of the Year honor. At just 20 years old, Walter was expected to bring energy and scoring to a Raptors team looking to rebound from a tough 2023-24 season, where they posted a 25-57 record and missed the Play-In Tournament.
