APL T20 unveils first three franchises ahead of 2026 launch

The Afghanistan Premier League T20 has officially revealed its first three franchises and the competition’s trophy ahead of the league’s inaugural season, set to begin on December 27, 2026. The teams — Axcel United Kabul, Balkh Zwanan and Kandahar Warriors — were introduced during a ceremony in Dubai attended by franchise owners, league partners and Afghanistan Cricket Board officials. The league also showcased its trophy, the Koh‑E‑Zafar, designed to reflect Afghanistan’s mountain ranges and symbolise strength and achievement.

Player registration for the first APL T20 draft opens on August 30, with the draft scheduled for September 27. The full tournament schedule and venues are still to be announced. ACB chairman Mirwais Ashraf described the launch as a milestone for Afghan cricket, emphasising the league’s role in developing young talent. Each franchise outlined ambitions centred on regional identity, with Balkh focusing on youth development and Kandahar promoting an aggressive playing style.
