De Leede to lead Dutch debut

The Netherlands have announced their squad for their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup, with Babette de Leede appointed captain as the team prepares for the June‑July tournament in England. De Leede, continuing a family tradition established by her uncle Tim and cousin Bas in men’s World Cups, described the opportunity as a landmark moment for Dutch cricket.

She highlighted the excitement of competing against elite opposition, the chance to showcase emerging talent, and the hope of inspiring young girls across the country. The team qualified after key victories in the Global Qualifier earlier this year in Nepal and will fine‑tune preparations through a T20I tri‑series in Scotland featuring Bangladesh.

At the World Cup, the Netherlands are grouped with India, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh and Pakistan, beginning their campaign against Bangladesh on 14 June in Edgbaston before further group matches in Leeds, Southampton and Bristol.
