Fernando, Mujeeb headline LPL 2026 draft haul

Avishka Fernando emerged as the marquee name of the Lanka Premier League 2026 draft, with Jaffna Kings selecting him as the first overall pick. The franchise strengthened its top order further by adding Kamil Mishara and Ibrahim Zadran, while also securing David Wiese and Dilshan Madushanka. Afghan talent was in high demand, with Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Gulbadin Naib, Ibrahim Zadran and Fazalhaq Farooqi all drafted. Colombo Kaps, who had already signed Kusal and Kamindu Mendis, chose Mujeeb as their platinum overseas pick and added Binura Fernando locally.

Kandy Royals focused on experience, bringing in Kusal Perera, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Nuwan Thushara and Asitha Fernando, along with Scotland all‑rounder Brandon McMullen. Dambulla Sixers selected Maheesh Theekshana and Farooqi as platinum picks and added USA seamer Shadley van Schalkwyk. Galle Gallants secured Charith Asalanka after signing Dasun Shanaka earlier. The sixth LPL edition runs from July 17 to August 8 across four venues.
