Indonesia set for first Asia Cup challenge

Indonesia have confirmed their squad for their first Women’s Asia Cup appearance, completing the list of teams ahead of the eight‑nation tournament starting on August 28. The side qualified through June’s ACC Women’s Premier Cup, remarkably competing with only 11 players during the event. From that group, Dara Maramitha misses out, while young spinner Sofia Velic and powerful hitter Maria Corazon Wombaki strengthen the new roster. Indonesia enjoyed an impressive qualifying run, reaching the semi‑finals before falling to Thailand and later losing the third‑place play‑off to Hong Kong, China.

Captain Nanda Sakarini again leads the team, supported by a bowling unit featuring Under‑19 World Cup standouts Wesika Ratna Dewi, Putri Suwandewi and Sang Maypriani. Desi Wulandari, Lie Qiao and Ni Kadek Ariani also return from the U19 campaign. Sakarini was Indonesia’s top scorer in qualifying. Their Asia Cup journey begins against Bangladesh on August 31, followed by Sri Lanka and UAE.
