Ancelotti on Neymar's World Cup 2026 chances: 'If he deserves it, he'll go'

Following the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington, Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Neymar will participate if fit. Addressing media in the US capital, the former Real Madrid manager emphasized that Neymar’s inclusion depends on performance. Previously, Ancelotti noted he would decide in March, stating "anything can happen" regarding the 33-year-old Santos forward’s potential final World Cup.

Currently battling a tough relegation with Santos in the Brasileirão, Neymar is also managing a meniscus injury requiring possible surgery. Ancelotti prioritized team cohesion over individual fame, stating, "I don't want stars; I need a group willing to win."

In Group D, Brazil will face Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti across hosts US, Canada, and Mexico. Despite holding a record five titles, the Seleção hasn't reached a final since 2002. Ancelotti faces the challenge of ending this drought, balancing historical legacy with his pragmatic philosophy while closely monitoring his veteran star’s physical condition.
