Arsenal have shelved their long‑discussed “maxi‑expansion” of the Emirates Stadium, opting instead for continued incremental improvements to the existing 60,000‑seat venue. During the latest Arsenal Advisory Board meeting, club executives—including president Josh Kroenke and CEO Richard Garlick—confirmed that the ambitious plan to increase capacity to around 80,000 has been dropped. The decision stems from prohibitive construction costs and the logistical challenge of finding a temporary home capable of hosting Arsenal’s fixtures during the works.
The club will now prioritise upgrades already underway, such as a new hospitality partner, enhanced 5G connectivity and the introduction of a safe‑standing section in the Clock End. Further modernisation is expected, with Kroenke citing inspiration from the state‑of‑the‑art SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. While expansion is off the table, Arsenal insist their focus remains on refining and future‑proofing the Emirates rather than rebuilding it.
