Atletico Madrid defeated Real Betis 2-1

Diego Simeone's team broke a three-game losing streak in all competitions on Sunday as Atletico Madrid defeated Real Betis 2-1 at home in La Liga. After Betis made a defensive blunder, goalkeeper Rui Silva scored an own goal in the eighth minute, and Alvaro Morata—who had previously in the game missed a penalty kick—extended the home team's advantage with a header off a rebound in the 44th minute.

In the 61st minute, William Carvalho of Betis scored a spectacular long-range goal into the top corner to cut the lead, and Atletico's goalkeeper Jan Oblak's heroics allowed the team to achieve a much-needed victory at home. In the La Liga standings, Atletico climbed up to 55 points in fourth position, two points behind Barcelona in third and six ahead of Athletic Bilbao in fifth. The two teams will play each other in Bilbao later on Sunday. Leading team Real Madrid has 66 points.
