Atletico Madrid easily defeats Las Palmas 5-0

As manager Diego Simeone rested key players ahead of a midweek Champions League last-16 match at Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid defeated visiting Las Palmas 5-0 in La Liga on Saturday thanks to two goals each from Marcos Llorente and Angel Correa. With 51 points, Atletico matched Barcelona for third place in La Liga. Barcelona and Atletico play at Rafa Benitez's Celta Vigo later on Saturday. It is ten points behind Real Madrid at the top and five behind Girona, both of whom have a game remaining.

Even though Simeone rested French forward Antoine Griezmann, Atletico dominated play and took full advantage of its opportunities against a typically strong Las Palmas team, which came into the capital with the second-best defensive record in La Liga (20 goals conceded in 24 games), only surpassed by Real Madrid's 15.
