Barcelona finally wore down 10-man Valencia to claim a 4-2 win

Barcelona defeated 10-man Valencia 4–2 in a thrilling comeback to go ahead of Girona into second place. Robert Lewandowski scored his first Liga hat-trick in the process. Fermin Lopez opened the score with a thunderous header on minute 22, but Hugo Duro of Valencia equalized five minutes later, seizing an inconsiderate error from Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who attempted to casually dink the ball over the head of the charging striker. After Ronald Araujo had taken down Peter Gonzalez in the box, Pepelu gave Valencia the lead from the penalty spot on minute 38.

The visitors, managed by Ruben Baraja, used backup goalkeeper Jaume Domenech for the entirety of the second half after Giorgi Mamardashvili, the first-choice shot-stopper, was sent off for handling outside of his area after mishandling Yarek Gasiorowski's backpass.
