They are just four points ahead of Girona in third position in La Liga, and have earned second place. Prior to their season-ending trip to Seville, Barcelona has 82 points. Real Madrid won the domestic championship in the previous weeks with 94 points from 37 games. Barcelona was unsuccessful this season not only in La Liga but also in Spain's Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, and the UEFA Champions League. Thus forcing the club to release a press release stating, “FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has informed Xavi Hernandez that he will not be continuing as first team coach in the 2024-25 season.”
