Berekum Chelsea beat King Faisal to go top of the league table

A goal in each half from Afriyie Mezack and Dramani Awuah was enough to seal victory for Berekum Chelsea at the Nana Agyemang Badu II Park on Monday afternoon.

According to a report from the Club Licensing Board, Chelsea was forced to use the Agyemang Badu Park as a backup venue because they were unable to get their home field ready for the season. They will continue to use Dormaa until the board gives the green light for the Golden City Park to be used for league games.

The home team had the more intense opening minutes of the two, and Mezack, who expertly connected with Kalou Ouattarra's cross after only 11 minutes of play, gave them the early lead.

The first half of the game didn’t fail to excite as the host squandered a couple of decent chances - but King Faisal had their goalkeeper Abdul Jabil to thank for as he kept the score line at 1-0 at halftime as he pulled some remarkable saves to deny their host from extending their lead.

Back from recess, it didn’t take the host that long to consolidate their lead, it was a deserved goal as well, their pressure paid off eventually with the second goal coming from Dramani Awuah who was set up by Mezack 12 minutes into the second half.

Berekum Chelsea pegged Faisal in their half for a significant part of the second half, but failed to convert any of the numerous chances that fell their way - king Faisal on the other hand also had a couple of chances but lacked the composure to cause any problems.

Berekum Chelsea after the victory moved to the summit of the league table with a superior goal advantage after match week one.
