The fixture will still be played on 27 March and will remain in Europe. Organisers were forced to reconsider the original plan of staging the match at Lusail Stadium in Doha due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, prompting the search for an alternative venue.

From the outset, the Bernabeu had been viewed as one of the strongest candidates. Negotiations accelerated after several matches linked to the Qatar Football Festival were rearranged, allowing UEFA, CONMEBOL and Real Madrid to move closer to a final agreement.
