Chelsea’s transfer pull under threat

Chelsea fear their current decline is undermining their ability to attract elite players, with their pursuit of Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon emerging as an early warning sign. The club have monitored Gordon for several windows and recently revisited the possibility of positioning themselves for a summer move.

However, sources suggest their sporting situation has severely weakened their chances, especially as Bayern Munich now lead the race for his signature. Internally, there is a growing acceptance that Chelsea are no longer viewed as a natural destination for Europe’s best talent. The issue extends beyond Gordon as the club plan to strengthen several key positions, including winger, centre‑back, midfield and striker. Gordon is understood not to consider Chelsea the most appealing option, with Bayern offering stability, structure and guaranteed competitiveness. Chelsea, meanwhile, sit ninth in the Premier League, lack a permanent manager and must win the FA Cup final to salvage their season, complicating negotiations for priority targets.
