Egypt hold Iran to seal second place

Egypt secured second place in Group G after a 1-1 draw with Iran in Seattle, a result that keeps Amir Ghalenoei’s side in contention for a Round of 32 berth as one of the best third‑placed teams. Egypt struck early when Mahmoud Saber’s fifth‑minute effort slipped through Alireza Beiranvand and over the line. Iran responded quickly, earning a penalty after Mohamed Abdelmoneim fouled Mehdi Taremi, but Mostafa Shobeir saved the spot‑kick brilliantly.

Shobeir could not prevent the equaliser moments later, as Ramin Rezaeian converted from a tight angle after initially denying Milad Mohammadi.
