Elche 3-2 loss to Real Betis

Elche was far up after only eight minutes thanks to a penalty kick conversion by Fidel Chaves and a goal by Lucas Boyé, and it was looking at just its second victory in 23 league games. Yet after defender Lisandro Magallán was given a straight red card for striking Nabil Fekir with just the goalie to beat, Elche crumbled once again. As a result, the hosts were shorthanded starting in minute 57.

During halftime, Manuel Pellegrini sent on left defender Juan Miranda and striker Borja Iglesias to bolster his assault, and they both succeeded. After José Morente fouled Ayoze Pérez in the 65th minute, Elche was reduced to 10 men, and Iglesias scored from the penalty spot to restore parity. Three minutes later, Miranda equalized with a cross that sailed past goalkeeper Édgar Bada and struck the far post.
