Girona lost 1-0 at Mallorca

Girona was still in second place in La Liga after the loss, but Barcelona, their Catalan rivals, had a chance to go ahead of them in the day's last game against Bilbao. Girona has only triumphed once in their previous five league games, but they had an opportunity to catch up when leaders Real Madrid and Valencia drew 2-2 on Saturday. The game takes place in Palma on Sunday.

Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid, who believed he had just scored the game's winning goal, was sent off for demonstrating after the referee blew the final whistle on his shot, which led to controversy. Girona, on the other hand, finished the weekend seven points behind the lead. After winning a semi-final match against Real Sociedad on penalties, Mallorca, who had just advanced to the Copa del Rey final, scored the lone goal after 33 minutes.
