Iniesta begins coaching career in UAE

Andres Iniesta has officially begun his managerial career after being appointed head coach of Gulf United, a UAE second‑tier club. The former Spain and Barcelona midfielder, who scored the winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final, takes the role after earning his A Licence as he works toward completing his Pro Licence. Gulf United announced the move on Monday, describing it as the start of Iniesta’s transition from the pitch to the technical area.

The 42‑year‑old retired in 2024 following a final playing spell at Emirates Club in the UAE. Iniesta said joining Gulf United felt like the right environment to begin this new chapter, emphasising his desire to give back to the sport through coaching and daily work with young, ambitious players. His decorated career, defined by intelligence and creativity, now shifts into a developmental phase as he aims to build experience and shape emerging talent.
