Iraola sets tone for new Liverpool era

Andoni Iraola addressed the media for the first time as Liverpool manager on Monday, declaring his aim to build a team supporters can genuinely feel proud of. Speaking at the AXA Training Centre, he highlighted the importance of forging a strong bond with fans and recalled the electric Anfield atmosphere he once experienced as an opposing coach, saying he wants that level of intensity every match. 

Iraola stressed that Liverpool must play with aggression, verticality and relentless work‑rate, while acknowledging the squad still needs reinforcements before the transfer window closes. Although he admitted coaches prefer full squads from day one, he noted the club is pushing hard to complete signings. 

He has already held positive conversations with players returning from World Cup duty and spent his first weeks engaging with staff to create an environment that maximises performance. Fully aware of the scrutiny surrounding his role, Iraola insisted he intends to live normally and remain accessible.
