Mexico will host Leagues Cup for first time

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami is prepared to battle Mexican opponents Atletico San Luis, Monterrey, and Leon during the 2026 Leagues Cup’s opening phase. Uniquely, this fourth edition introduces fixtures played directly in Mexico. Running from August 4 through September 6, the tournament commences shortly following the World Cup. Miami, the 2023 champions, will host their three group contests at the recently completed Nu Stadium starting August 5.

The competition involves 18 clubs from MLS and Liga MX. While Columbus and Seattle captured recent titles, Mexican squads are desperate to secure their nation's first trophy. The format divides thirty-six participants into specific league groups, with the top eight advancing to cross-league quarter-finals.

Significantly, four matches happen in Mexico. Toluca hosts Seattle and Dallas, while Tigres welcomes Thomas Muller’s Vancouver Whitecaps. Furthermore, Club América faces San Diego at the legendary Azteca. Ultimately, the top three finishers earn 2027 CONCACAF Champions Cup berths.
