Saudi-backed Newcastle did not expect to receive direct support from the Saudi league.
The Italian midfielder Tonali will not be able to return to action until the end of August 2024. As a result, the Premier League side have lost one of their summer transfer window reinforcements.
But, according to 'talkSPORT', Newcastle are in talks with Al-Hilal to sign Ruben Neves, who played for Wolves for six seasons, on loan from the Saudi club to take Tonali's place in Eddie Howe's squad.
The 26-year-old is very close to returning to the Premier League but to play at St James Park.
