Eddie Howe will have to make at least one alteration to his starting lineup for Newcastle United's Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund later in the evening. Dan Burn, who started at left-back in the Magpies' 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday, was forced to leave the game before halftime after collapsing awkwardly on his back. Howe later announced the Blyth-born defender will be sidelined for "a couple of months.”
Following Burn's departure against Arsenal, Howe inserted £35 million summer addition Tino Livramento at right-back and shifted Kieran Trippier to left-back. Livaramento, who arrived from Southampton, contributed to the Magpies keeping their ninth clean sheet of the 2023-24 season. Howe, of course, is unable to use Matt Targett because of a hamstring injury that will keep him out for the next three months.
