Republic of Ireland 4-0 victory against Gibraltar

In a much-needed response following their disappointing 2-0 loss to Greece, the Republic of Ireland secured their second win in Group B with a convincing performance. Stephen Kenny's side, under increasing scrutiny, made three changes to their lineup, aiming for a more potent attacking display. Kenny's pre-game intent was clear: to conclude the campaign on a positive note, and the Republic demonstrated a marked improvement in their offensive play compared to their previous Group B outings. The introduction of Jamie McGrath and Mikey Johnston proved to be astute decisions, as the team dominated the match from start to finish in front of 3,000 Irish fans in Portugal.

Their opening goal arrived in the eighth minute, the result of patient build-up play. Chiedozie Ogbene set up Matt Doherty on the right, whose low cross found Evan Ferguson. The Brighton striker displayed finesse with a cushioned volley into the roof of the net.
