The Republic of Ireland's has lost hopes of reaching the Euro 2024 finals

In a crucial Group B clash, Greece managed to leapfrog the Netherlands into second place after securing a victory with first-half goals from Giorgos Giakoumakis and Giorgos Masouras. The win bolstered Greece's position in the European Championship qualifying campaign. Despite the return of teenage striker Evan Ferguson, the Republic of Ireland's woes continued, as their campaign remained lackluster. They have managed just one win and suffered five losses in their six matches so far.

As it stands, Ireland is currently in fourth place in the five-team group, trailing leaders France by a substantial 15 points. The Greek victory pushed them nine points ahead of the Irish team, making the qualification for Euro 2024 increasingly challenging. Ireland's manager, Stephen Kenny, had emphasized the importance of belief before the match, but despite a strong opening 10 minutes, during which they came close to scoring twice, their performance ultimately disappointed the home crowd.
