Wolfsburg’s 1-1 draw against Union Berlin

Wolfsburg had the upper hand in a lacklustre match, but Union was on the verge of triumph when Josip Juranovic, a former Celtic wing-back, converted a penalty in the 72nd minute. Union, who had been in the top four for the majority of the season, had dropped to fifth before kickoff as a result of Freiburg's victory earlier on Sunday. In a gloomy first half, the home team prevailed, creating a few half-chances against the tenacious Union defence.

After 17 minutes, Wolfsburg midfielder Mattias Svanberg's free kick hit the crossbar. Omar Marmoush, an Egyptian winger, had a one-on-one opportunity with Union goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow but missed wide. Early in the second half, the two players engaged in another tussle, with Ronnow diving to stop Marmoush's low header. Josuha Guilavogui, who seldom plays for Union, clipped Aissa Laidouni's foot in the area, awarding the visitors a penalty kick.
