Baseball Australia withdraws from the Olympic qualifying tournament

Due to Covid 19 concerns Australia’s Baseball team has withdrawn from the Olympic baseball qualifying tournament. Australia won a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics in Baseball but would not be participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics now.

Baseball Australia chief executive Glenn Williams shared that the safety concerns and the challenges they face due to the pandemic have forced their hands. Even the Baseball qualifying event had to be shifted from Taiwan to Mexico last month. And even if the team has participated and qualified for the Olympics they would still not be able to meet the mandatory completion of quarantining that is required for gaining an entry. Now just three teams are left in the competition after Taiwan and China also withdrew their names.
