After playing for the Italian professional basketball team Virtus Bologna for the final six seasons of his career, Marco Belinelli announced his retirement on Monday afternoon. With the San Antonio Spurs, with whom he played his last NBA games in the 2019–20 season, Belinelli won an NBA championship in 2014.
After joining the 76ers in February 2018, the Italian averaged 13.6 points per game, including 12.9 in the playoffs, while participating in 28 games. Belinelli made a two-pointer to force overtime in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Boston Celtics, but the Sixers would ultimately lose. The Golden State Warriors selected Belinelli with the 18th overall choice in the first round of the 2007 NBA draft. He would go on to play in 860 NBA games, starting 219 of them.
