The Austin Spurs have found their new head coach in 31-year-old Australian Jacob Chance, who replaces Scott King after his promotion to San Antonio’s staff. Chance arrives from Melbourne United, where he served as an assistant for the past two seasons, and has also been involved with Australia’s National Team program. Despite his youth, he is regarded as one of the most promising coaches from his country, following a path similar to mentor Matt Nielsen, who also coached in Austin before moving to San Antonio.
Chance connected with the Spurs during Summer League and impressed during the interview process. He now inherits a team that reached the Western Conference Finals under King, who was named 2025 G League Coach of the Year. His responsibilities will also include developing San Antonio’s two-way players and potentially rookie Carter Bryant.
