The Boston Celtics have spent the whole offseason reducing expenses. They shipped out Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis in deals to acquire Anfernee Simons and Georges Niang as they started the summer with the biggest tax burden ever, while Al Horford is probably going to go in free agency.
Since Jayson Tatum is set to miss the whole 2025–26 season due to a torn Achilles that he sustained during the playoffs, those deals have at least put them under the second tax apron. However, they may be considering more salary-cutting measures. NBA insider Jake Fischer has revealed that the Celtics recently held trade conversations with the Memphis Grizzlies, who have also had an interesting offseason.Although it's unclear what was discussed, it likely wasn't over Anfernee Simons. Memphis has a deep backcourt with Ja Morant, Scotty Pippen Jr., recent trade acquisition Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and recent signee Ty Jerome.
