The Boston Celtics have made it clear that they intend to keep recent G-League acquisition DJ Steward, whose player rights were transferred to the Celtics as part of a three-team G-League deal that involved Mexico City Capitanes, Stockton Kings, and Maine Celtics, in their "developmental pipeline."
This would allow liberty to the parent club to either move in a different direction or hold their third two-way slot open for others. The Chicago native put on quite a show during the NBA's 2023 Las Vegas Summer League and showed off his playmaking skills that piqued the interest of the Celtics. Steward averaged 13.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists while shooting over 45% from the field for Sacramento's G-League affiliate in 2021-22 and 2022-23, he even averaged 13 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists at Duke.
