Heat forward Nikola Jovic signed a four-year extension with Miami

Jovic was approaching the last year of his rookie contract when he averaged 10.7 points in 2024–25, his third NBA season with the Heat. He was selected by Miami with the 27th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

With shooting guard Tyler Herro recovering from surgery that involved removing a bone from his left foot, Jovic, 22, is anticipated to play a larger role in Miami. Herro claimed that on Monday, he informed head coach Erik Spoelstra that he will be ready for action and on the court in six weeks, ahead of Miami's 8–12 week post-op timeframe. Jovic said at team media day his goals to start the season include breaking into the starting lineup. "I want to earn the starting spot," Jovic said. "I want to show people I can start. I can play, and I deserve the starting spot."
