Heat shut down Jović‑for‑Thompson trade talks

The Miami Heat have halted discussions with the Dallas Mavericks over a potential trade for Klay Thompson, refusing to include Nikola Jović in any package. Despite Miami’s strong interest in the veteran sharpshooter, talks stalled when Dallas insisted that Jović’s contract was the simplest way to match salaries, according to reporter Brett Siegel. The Heat, however, are unwilling to sacrifice a 23‑year‑old Serbian international for a 36‑year‑old entering the final year of his deal.

Miami hope Dallas eventually opts for a buyout, allowing Thompson to sign freely, but the Mavericks have no intention of releasing a player they still view as a valuable asset at roughly $17.5 million. Thompson has openly stated his desire to compete for a title, a goal misaligned with Dallas’ youth‑focused project around Cooper Flagg.

Miami, built around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, see Thompson, who hit 202 threes at 38.3% last season, as an ideal floor‑spacer. For now, the stalemate continues.
