Houston Rockets beat San Antonio 99-89

San Antonio made the strategic decision to rest their top pick, Victor Wembanyama, in their 99-89 loss to the Houston Rockets on Monday night, allowing the Rockets' two first-round selections to shine. Amen Thompson, the fourth overall pick, and Cam Whitmore, chosen 20th, delivered strong performances, each contributing 15 points, and the Rockets remained unbeaten at 3-0.

Despite the Spurs holding a 79-65 lead with 11:06 left to play, following a three-pointer by Doug McDermott, the Rockets mounted a remarkable comeback. They managed to take an 88-87 lead after Darius Days sunk two free throws with 4:24 remaining. Whitmore added a crucial three-pointer and made two vital shots in the final 96 seconds, amassing 11 points in that pivotal period. Newcomer Fred VanVleet provided 12 points and three steals for Houston, while Aaron Holiday also chipped in with 12 points.
