The Los Angeles Lakers may finally be close to seeing one of their biggest offseason additions in action. With only two preseason games remaining, Walker Kessler is nearing a return after missing time with a finger injury, and head coach JJ Redick has not ruled out a debut before opening night.
Kessler participated in portions of the team’s latest practice, completing most activities despite being held out of full live-action situations. Redick stressed that no decision has been finalized, but the center’s progress has been encouraging.
The former Utah big man is expected to play a crucial role in the Lakers’ defensive identity after arriving during the summer. His rebounding, shot-blocking and interior presence could significantly strengthen Los Angeles as it prepares for the 2026-27 campaign.
Meanwhile, fellow newcomer Collin Sexton continues recovering from a lower-leg issue and remains slightly behind Kessler in his rehabilitation. Even so, the Lakers are optimistic and the roster beginning to take shape ahead of the regular-season opener.
