Kyle Lowry is returning to play for his hometown Philadelphia 76ers

Kyle Lowry, a six-time All-Star guard, announced on Instagram on Thursday that he will be rejoining his hometown Philadelphia 76ers. ESPN reports that Lowry's new contract with the Sixers is for a single season.

After being traded by the Miami Heat to the Charlotte Hornets in late January, Lowry, 38, signed a contract with Philadelphia in the middle of the season. Three weeks later, Charlotte dismissed him. Lowry, a native of Philadelphia, attended the neighboring Villanova University during his academic career. During the regular season, he averaged 8.0 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game while playing in 23 games for the Sixers, 20 of which he started. Additionally, he made 40.4 percent of his 3-pointers. After scoring eighteen points in the 76ers' opening playoff game, Lowry went on to average seven points, four assists, and three rebounds in the team's six-game series defeat to the New York Knicks.
