Lue's contract with the Clippers was about to expire, but the new arrangement extends it until the 2028–2029 NBA season.
Subsequently, Shams Charania of The Athletic claimed that Lue's contract is valued at over $70 million over the course of five years, placing him among the top paid coaches in the league. Lue is now the fourth highest paid coach in the NBA, behind only Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors, Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs, and Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat, with a deal worth around $14 million annually. Lue has been the Clippers' head coach since the 2020–21 NBA season. In his four seasons in Los Angeles, he has a record of 184–134. Before joining the Clippers, Lue was the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he led the team to victory in the 2016 NBA Finals after David Blatt was sacked in the middle of the season.
