The veteran guard intends to sign a two-year, $11 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers after the Washington Wizards and Smart agreed on a contract buyout, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Luka Doncic "reached out to Smart and made it clear that he wanted to play with him as part of the Lakers' recruitment efforts, Charania continued. According to Charania, the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks joined the Lakers in their pursuit of Smart. He was set to make $21.6 million for the 2025-26 season on an expiring deal.
