Ochai Agbaji was an in-demand player when he was traded to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Donovan Mitchell, who was headed to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Agbaji's first NBA season began with a few G League assignments and sporadic minutes off the bench, but with time and effort, he was able to gradually push his way into the Jazz's regular rotation.
By the end of the 2022–23 season, Agbaji had earned a spot in the starting lineup, and Jazz supporters were giddy with anticipation for what the former Kansas Jayhawk could do. Agbaji was aggressive rather than submissive throughout the latter stretch of the season, generating shots for himself and teammates, shooting off the dribble, amassing weak-side blocks, and proving to be a nuisance on the defensive end. He would have a new mindset going into his second NBA season thanks to his late-season success.
