The Orlando Magic have no plans to trade Anthony Black, according to Marc Stein, even as uncertainty surrounds the guard’s long-term contract situation.
The challenge is financial. Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs and Desmond Bane are expected to account for $154.8 million in salary during 2026-27, pushing Orlando’s projected payroll to approximately $209.9 million.
Stein and Jake Fischer believe an extension before the deadline is unlikely. Black could therefore enter restricted free agency next summer, allowing the Magic to match competing offers and retain control over his future.
Selected sixth overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, Black enjoyed a breakout 2025-26 campaign, averaging 15 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists across 64 appearances. His 44.7% shooting from the field highlighted his development, although his three-point percentage slipped to 33.3%.
Orlando must balance Black’s growing value against its financial limitations. Delaying negotiations could provide flexibility while keeping the promising guard firmly within the franchise’s long-term plans.
