Seattle pushes for a Sonics revival

Gary Payton believes Seattle is finally approaching the moment it has awaited since 2008: the return of the SuperSonics. Fresh off a BIG3 championship with the Boston Ball Hogs, the Hall of Famer revealed he is part of an ownership group actively working to bring an NBA team back to the city. Payton, closely linked to Ken Griffey Jr., says the group’s sole priority is securing the franchise before discussing roles or stakes. Seattle has been without a team since the Sonics moved to Oklahoma City, a painful departure for a fan base that watched Payton become the organisation’s all‑time leader in points, assists and steals.

He also imagines a future where Gary Payton II and Kevin Durant could join a revived roster. With the league evaluating expansion bids for Seattle and Las Vegas, Payton is convinced the timing is right. After nearly twenty years, hope is turning into expectation.
