Forward Markieff Morris has decided to rejoin the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks, who won the Western Conference the previous season, gave the 35-year-old veteran's re-signing top priority. As he begins his fourteenth NBA season, Morris has been a vital leader in the locker room.
Morris was acquired by the Mavs in the transaction that involved Kyrie Irving as well from the Brooklyn Nets. He appeared in 26 games for the team in 2023–24, and averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game the previous campaign. Morris, a Kansas native who was first chosen 13th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft, has played for a number of teams throughout his career, including the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, and Oklahoma City Thunder. In 776 regular-season games over 13 seasons, he has averaged 10.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 34.3% from three-point range and 44.5% from the field.
