The Trail Blazers falter in the fourth quarter

The Portland Trail Blazers' defense, which had been stingy in their previous three games, and center Deandre Ayton, who had been dependable in their previous two triumphs, failed to be dependable during Sunday's second meeting with the Memphis Grizzlies at the Moda Center. At halftime, the Blazers trailed 63-55, and Ayton had only two points and four rebounds. The Blazers outscored Memphis 31-19 in the third quarter while restricting them to 30.8% shooting. However, the Grizzlies seemed to score at will in the fourth quarter, and Ayton had yet to show himself offensively. As a consequence, the Blazers saw a 95-86 lead early in the fourth quarter turn into a 112-100 loss. The Grizzlies won their first game of the season by outscoring Portland 26-5 in the last 8 minutes and 52 seconds.

Jerami Grant led the Blazers with 27 points, while Malcolm Brogdon chipped in with 18 points and 11 assists. Shaedon Sharpe added 18 points. Deandre Ayton finished with six points, 11 rebounds, and three turnovers. Desmond Bane led the Grizzlies in scoring with 30 points, 21 of which came in the second half. Jaren Jackson Jr. had 27 points.
