Nigeria seal thrilling T20 qualifier victory

Nigeria completed a flawless campaign in Abuja by defeating Uganda by one run in a dramatic final-day clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier C.

Both teams had already secured progression, but Nigeria claimed the tournament trophy after posting 148, with Isaac Danladi contributing 47. Uganda appeared on course for victory thanks to Riazat Ali Shah’s superb 60 from 35 deliveries. Needing six runs from the final over, Uganda required three from the last ball to win and two to force a tie. Sylvester Okpe delivered under pressure, while Juma Miyaji was run out attempting a second run, leaving Uganda agonisingly short.

The victory marked Nigeria’s first men’s T20I win over Uganda. Nigeria finished with five victories from five matches, while Uganda advanced after recording four wins.

The pair will join Tanzania, Ghana, Rwanda and Kenya in the Africa Regional Final, with the top two teams progressing to the global qualifier.
