Scotland fast bowler Brad Wheal has announced his retirement from professional cricket at 30, citing recurring injuries and the physical demands of pace bowling.
Wheal made his international debut against Hong Kong in 2016, claiming 51 wickets across 44 ODI and T20I appearances. He represented Scotland at four Men's T20 World Cups and played important roles in victories over Bangladesh in 2021 and the West Indies in 2022. At county level, Wheal featured in 131 matches for Hampshire, helping the club win the Royal London One-Day Cup in 2018 and the Vitality Blast in 2022.
Four back stress fractures and recent knee surgery ultimately influenced his decision.
Cricket Scotland praised his professionalism and international contributions, highlighting his performances during the 2018 World Cup Qualifier. Wheal leaves the game expressing pride in representing Scotland and gratitude to teammates, coaches and supporters.
