Scheduled for February and March across India and Sri Lanka, the tournament is the primary focus of this short-term arrangement. Rathour’s tenure will last from January 18 until March 10. A former Indian cricketer, Rathour brings significant experience, having served as India’s batting coach between 2019 and 2024.
Currently, he also acts as the lead assistant coach for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. This strategic move follows the recent hiring of R Sridhar, another former Indian coach, who joined as the fielding coach under a similar World Cup-focused agreement. Competing in Group B alongside Australia, Zimbabwe, Oman, and Ireland, Sri Lanka aims to boost their performance. They begin their campaign against Ireland in Colombo on February 8, hoping Rathour’s vast expertise proves to be decisive.
