ESL has stated that Complexity would take paiN's spot at the IEM Cologne Play-in as they are unable to attend. According to ESL rules, the North American squad was selected as a substitute since it is the next-highest-ranked team in the ESL World Ranking.
Complexity now has the opportunity to begin their season with two events on European soil following their off-season acquisition of Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski. They will travel a short distance to Cologne to start their quest in the Play-in after attending the BLAST Premier Fall Groups, which start on July 13, first. Complexity, the top-ranked North American team since Liquid left the continent, will be the lone NA participant in the German tournament. Beginning on July 26, 16 teams will compete for eight slots in the $1,000,000 main tournament at IEM Cologne 2023.
