Mid Laner Cloud9 Riot Games has censured Jang "EMENES" Min-soo for statements he made in mid-September during a League of Legends rated play that were xenophobic and insulting. Notably, he had escaped punishment in time for the World Championships the following week. On October 3, Riot imposed the penalty, fining the Korean celebrity $15,000 USD. In addition, the League publishers mandated that EMENES complete a "educational training course on professionalism" before the 2024 LCS season begins.
After an investigation revealed that EMENES' remarks directed at European League streamer Spear_shot were "offensive and derogatory," particularly given that the streamer in question was deemed to have in no way provoked EMENES during the match, Riot determined that EMENES had violated Section 14.3.3 on behaviour and conduct. In the course of its inquiry, Riot discovered critiques of the C9 mid laner's social media posts as well as many reports on EMENES' account of "behavioural misconduct".
