Brondby have sacked coach Steve Cooper with immediate effect

Brøndby have dismissed head coach Steve Cooper with immediate effect following an unconvincing season in the Danish Superliga. Assistant coach Alan Tate also leaves, while Julius Ohnesorge has been promoted to director of football as part of a wider restructuring. Cooper, appointed last September, oversaw a campaign marked by uneven performances, ending in a fourth‑place finish. His final match was a 3‑1 extra‑time defeat to FC Copenhagen, a loss that cost Brøndby a place in next season’s Conference League qualifiers.

Vice‑chairman Scott McLachlan said the decision was based on results and performances, acknowledging that although progress had been made in some areas, the team failed to reach the expected level on the pitch. Cooper’s tenure comprised twenty‑eight matches, producing ten wins, six draws and twelve defeats. The former Leicester and Nottingham Forest manager now departs as Brøndby reshape their sporting structure, with Ohnesorge replacing outgoing football director Benjamin Schmedes.
