CONCACAF chief reportedly weighing FIFA challenge to Infantino

Victor Montagliani is reportedly assessing the possibility of running against Gianni Infantino in next March’s FIFA presidential election, according to emerging reports. The development comes as Infantino faces his most significant pushback yet, triggered by widespread opposition to FIFA’s plan to sell a stake in the men’s World Cup through a proposed 20‑billion‑dollar subsidiary.

Infantino, who announced in April that he would seek a fourth term, had long enjoyed strong support from national federations. That backing has wavered in recent days, with several stakeholders voicing concerns over governance, due process and the compressed timeline surrounding the proposal.

CONCACAF’s 41 member associations rejected the plan at a Thursday meeting, though they stopped short of endorsing UEFA’s call for a boycott. The Mexican federation said it would conduct its own review before deciding. The confederation confirmed its members had “deep concerns” about the lack of oversight and formal approval within FIFA’s structures.
